It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that Bill Russell passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2019. Bill was an integral part of our Advance Capital family for 25 years and he will be sorely missed.
Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, April 26, 2019, at the St. Charles United Church of Christ 40W451 Fox Mill Blvd, St. Charles, IL 60175. Burial will be private. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Russell Family Scholarship at Kenyon College, Gambier, OH.

Bill applies more than 20 years of experience as a financial adviser to helping people work toward their financial goals. He helps clients better prepare for the future by providing comprehensive wealth management services such as retirement and tax planning, investment portfolio strategies and 401(k) advice.
A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Bill has been serving clients at Advance Capital since 1993. Previously, he was the director of sales support for Ameritech.
Bill received an MBA in Finance from Loyola University and a BA from Kenyon College. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association.
WERE THERE ANY PARTICULAR LEARNING EXPERIENCES THAT PREPARED YOU FOR THIS ROLE?
When I worked for Bell, which is now AT&T, in Illinois, many of my colleagues asked me for financial advice since I had such a strong interest in finance. Therefore, it made perfect sense for me to join Advance Capital, which built its reputation on serving Bell employees and retirees.
WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO JOIN ADVANCE CAPITAL?
Advance Capital was founded by former Bell employees such as me, so there was a professional connection. However, what really attracted me was the way they carried over the same ethos of integrity and a commitment to do the right thing for clients, as well as the willingness to support each other.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ADVANCE CAPITAL’S CULTURE?
It is a culture focused on being forthright, honest and compassionate to each client and colleague. We’re client-driven, not sales-driven.
WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST REWARDING ABOUT YOUR WORK?
For me, it’s extremely satisfying to be able to give real, honest advice to clients and then receive sincere appreciation in return. At times, I must tell clients that what they want is beyond what’s realistic. In some cases, that means telling someone to delay retirement. Clients have given me thanks for advising them not to retire because they are now on track to reach their goals.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE OF ADVICE?
Be honest with yourself. For most people in their financial lives that means accepting reality. Plan to enjoy the comfortable retirement that you can have rather than take risks to seek a retirement that isn’t possible.
